  • BOVs are, in general, heavier even in water.
  • BOVs have more drag in water.
  • BOVs have, in general, higher WOB which could lead to retaining CO2.
  • BOVs have more components to fail (i.e. like leaky 2nd stage) that could jeopardize safety (i.e. turn diluent off).
  • BOVs could give a fault sense of security, especially when configured incorrectly.
  • BOVs could be more dangerous when plumbing to hypoxic gas, and bail-out to it in surface emergencies when panick.

And yet i wouldent dive a CCR without one.
