Its an old mod they did to blow water off the face off the cells and get a better cell reaction reading. Then AP started putting hydrophobic membranes on the cell faces and it kind of lost favor.
There was also some concern about the jet of air blasting the water through the cell membrane.
I haven't read about anyone doing it recently
