So here is some info: I had what felt like a minor breakthrough at 4 hours with 4-8 Sodasorb in the Galapagos, but I was in 59 F water in a strong current at 150 feet towards the end.
Didn't you tell me that your loop direction was wrong on that trip?
I change my scrubber every 6 or 8 hours depending on what I expect my next dive to be. If I'm past 6 hours and plan a 300 ft dive, I'll change it out. I rarely, if ever, breathe hard. I always use 8-12 Sodasorb.
I ran my scrubber to 9 hours the other day, dumped it right after the dive, and it looked like 1/2 to 2/3 was purple (and I know that color indication doesn't mean anything). The 9 hours that I had put on it was what I would consider to be under a heavy workload (for me). If I find myself breathing heavy, I purge my loop and slow down. If that didn't resolve the problem, I'd know something was up.
If I do 2 hours of diving, I leave my canister out long enough to dry my loop, then I seal everything back up. I'll do another 2 hours, and do the same. Then another 2... I typically change out every 3 weeks.
I would feel comfortable pushing to 10 hours, but I wouldn't go into a long deep dive with 7 hours on the canister.
Obviously I speak from my own experience and don't recommend that anyone push that canister past 26 minutes.
Aloha,
