Depends on the viz, but I would go for about 1m.
In the good old days of Nikonos V shooting that's what I used 80% of the time.
Fisheye lenses have great depth of field, so it'll fit many situations.

When trying to autofocus with the camera, do you use all focuspoints or just one?

If you use just one, it becomes easier to use your divelight to assist as focuslight.
