How would they know if the batteries are not exposed? I have carried on my meg and they didn't even open the lid. They just took my word for it that it's a rebreather. I also travel with my canister light battery pack which contains 21 Lithium cells and looks very much like a hazardous something. It does have a label that says what it is and they seem to be OK with that too.
i wouldn't worry about it.
