At the risk of sounding elitist, rebreather diving is no place for idiots. I think one thing that has helped the KISS's safety record is that the average idiot looked at manual control and thought "f**k that". Keep the bar high, keep idiots out.
People with the diving common sense/skill/knowledge/temperament/whatever-you-want-to-call-it to be diving a rebreather but not want to break 40-50m are probably going to go Evo/rEVO/KISS, they've probably no interest in a restrictive/restricted rebreather. If you're predisposed to do stupid things then it doesn't matter what equipment you're on, you've still got 40m of water between you and your next breath. Looking at DAN's rec accident figures the overwhelming factor is people misusing/misunderstanding basic principles.

I don't think anyone is missing the point. To me I think it's a bit of a cynical ploy, they dangled the Cis Lunar carrot at us for about a year and then produced an overly complicated way to dive nitrox. If it's a stepping stone to the innovation of the original Cis Lunars then fine but I think most people probably feel a bit let down at best and used as a free publicity machine at worst.
Cheers,
Stuart
