| 147m on Pelagian Hello
Just back from a trip to Lebanon with a group of 7 divers to visit HMS Victoria.
We dived 7 times on the wreck with 4 CCR divers and 3 OC divers ( 2 Inspo 1 Meg and of course myself with a Pelagian)
The viz was fantastic and the wreck still stands upright but has suffered some deck slippage on decks below 130m…the amount of decking falling to the seabed has made the ‘bottom’ somewhat shallower with hundreds of tonnes of metal work on the seabed now covered in a layer of silt. When we found the wreck the seabed was circa 156m. Now the deepest we could get to was 147m. We hit the bottom 3 times with up to 15 minutes bottom time and 280min deco’s (6 divers used Decochek Java and 1 double VR3’s)
One of the Inspo divers (Sandy from Oz) spotted HMS Victoria’s bell just sitting there near the bottom!…we returned ‘mob handed’ the next day to find the bell again very securely attached to a thick frame which unfortunately looked like it will keep its grip for a long time to come.
Very likely I will return in December with another group to video the bell – if people are interested to join in…pm me.
We took lots more video…I will try and show some at DEMA on the Rebreatherlab / Pelagian stand
Lebanon never fails to excite…we were there when the latest MP was blown up and then witnessed some Syrian jet doing ‘bombing runs’ over Tripoli…all good stuff to see when your 10km off-shore. Some more topside and underwater pics and deco plans to follow if anyones interested
cheers,
