Gill why do you have to calibrate each time it's turned on?
The stock handset is just a po2 meter, no computer. Extremely simple...a very solid unit, intended for recreational diving...but still able to handle the rigors of north west shore diving. the downside to that simplicity is that it lacks the computer to hold the callibration between dives. I basically wanted everything in an eCCR minus the set point controller, so I got a copis and the shearwater GF and HUD, removed the stock handset battery, unplugged it from the sensors, but have left everything in place as a back up, ready to plug in if the GF and or HUD goes to hell on a trip. If any one of the three systems malfunctions, I can use the other two and continue happily diving, even beyond recreational limits on a trip. if the cable of the stock handset were not glued in place i'd probably fit a fisher connector inside the head and make it so i can port plug and remove the stock handset... and reinstall in the field only if needed. For folks who have never experienced a major show stopper malfunction in the field, this may sound like overkill. those who have will better understand the wisdom of this configuration.
Between the two of us we will probably even go a step further and purchase a third Shearwater for back up deco, but fisher enabled, keeping the wiring in the "save a trip" kit, enabling us to even do a complete rewire if need be.
