The cheapest way will always be home build. It's not as tough as you think; buy a cheap display, add a resistor and a trimming pot and the electronics in the display takes care of everything for you I used a bargraph diver to do this and the whole project was aroud £20GBP - and I'm NO electronic expert! Check Tom Rose's cheap HUD project?

Otherwise; rEvoDream works nicely. Or use the 4th cell option on your computer if you have one? VR£ or HS explorer?
