By the way, I was thinking about the same idea but the closest I have seen is the hose used in vacuum cleaners which has a stiff plastic reinforcement component.

With a knife you can cut it following the spiral using only the reinforcement par and discarding the rest and it would be perfect. Unfortunately I have not been able to find in my local Home Depot (my main source for materials) that kind of hose. But I'll try the one you just have suggested.
