it seems that the Cochran EMC 16 is a very nice option for recreational CCR NDL diving. the 20H, for trimix, includes extra tissue compartment calculations for the fast on and off gas of helium, that is the only difference between the two...oh and a several hundred dollar differnce in price tag.
But neither the EMC 16 Or 20H allow for bail out to OC. A major downside. And word has it, streight from the manufacturer, that Mat's technique of leaving the touch option on and using a clip to cross contacts to switch to Fo2 under water does not work...according to the manufacturer, they can not get this to happen in the lab... bummer! They sounded hopeful.
Not being able to bail out to OC when deco diving, turns the EMC into a back up, and a pricey one at that. IMHO.

If you are going to go with a non-integrated computer Cochran EMC-20H is pretty flawless.
My info on the Explorer goes back to the original Abyss / HS Explorer. Gene may have fixed his manufacturing issues but suffice to say I don't dive one. Some people have had flawless results with it, and I am happy they have. Most have not. The concept is good, it was the first multi-gas unit. I hope those who use them now are having better results now.
