| New Meg Owner in SE Florida Hello everyone,
I've been lurking for some time, researching for a long time, and I finally was able to pull the trigger and buy my first CCR. I started my my Rebreather search several years ago after watching Tom M. dive his Meg off a local boat in Miami. I was intrigued, and sold! A fellow pilot, BJD (RIP), talked to me about the different units, training agencies, and pros/cons of RB diving. All I had to do was figure out a way to get it done. Fast forward several years later and here I am, almost finished with IANTD's Meg CCR training.
The unit: I ended up purchasing a lightly used "Movie Meg" used by Joel T. in the movie, "The Cave". I have a short upper torso, and the ability of the Movie-Meg's shorter stack to still use the large scrubber makes for a nice fit for me. I've opted to mate the unit to my single's setup. Right now, I'm using my SS bp and harness with a heavy SS STA. The weight of the unit seems to be perfect with my drysuit, and I'll plan on using my AL bp and harness when diving wet. This unit had very little use on it from the movie, and has been in storage for quite a while. After replacing O2 sensors, battery packs, a couple of o-rings, and a loop hose, the first dives in Ginnie Springs went spectacular.
The training: After researching the agencies and instructors available to me in SE Florida, I choose Jill Heinerth and IANTD. Jill is an incredibly capable and experienced technical diver, and her teaching style is perfect for me. Jill certified my dive buddy on his Meg, and she came highly recommended by several sources. I had to split up the training into two blocks due to my flight schedule, so I'll be finishing up in a couple of weeks.
I'm very stoked to be entering this new dimension of diving, and I look forward to seeing some of you out on the water. Our group of divers now consists of 3 Megs (1 COPIS), 2 Optimas, and a KISS. I also look forward to utilizing this board, the experience of it's members, and the knowledge shared to increase my Rebreather understanding.
Anyway, the name is Eric, and have a great dive!
