Re: Manufacturer Recomended Absorbent

As a new rebreather diver I have been a bit disappointed by the apparent controlled market of the adsorbents. This stuff is treated like diamonds by DeBeers with limited distribution and seemingly fixed prices. I could buy medical grade sodalime (4-8) locally for a good price from a 'gas' distributor but if I want diver grade (8-12) I have to go through an 'exclusive distributor' over 1,500 miles away (higher price plus shipping).

Could be all the dust of Sodasorb is due to trucking back and forth across the country (in the US). By the time the diver gets the material it may have crossed the country several times by truck, lots of bouncing to grind up the granules. Even dive shops that buy in bulk are limited in their options.

Too bad there ar so few options, if there were significant competition the product might improve.
