Re: Storing sofnolime in scrubber housing!!!

My instructor was Peter Den Haan. He is the one that recommended taking the insert out and letting some of the excess moisture in the used sorb dry a bit before storage inbetween dives (lets be clear, i'm NOT talking about repacking the sorb... there is no way to prevent channels of used sorb from leading to breakthrough). He was clear that he only recomended it on repetative shallow dives, otherwise, best to bin and start with fresh sorb. After reading more on the subject, i've gotten the impression that air tight is not as important as one might think. Protecting the sorb from high heat and circulating air is more critical. After a month I chuck it and the longer it's been since I originally use it the less I push the total number of hours or depth. Unfortunately there is little imperical evidence to give us something objective to go on. Sorb is a pretty stable chemical and moisture content is important, but the inside of the loop quickly reaches %100 relative humidity so it seems a bit moot to me.

Gil are you saying you keep the scrubber in the canister insert let it dry overnight and them place the canister insert in an airtight bag?
Is this how most store it after shorter duration dives? Anyone want to give me some input.

I just say f-it and repack most of the time.
