James, one other suggestion now that I think of it: if you were to make the plate out of AL, with the additional weight savings, you could probably extend the upper tank tabs in a protective half circle/colar around the head as Stefan suggested a while back, without increasing the weight much. There is a gap of about 1/2 inch btw the head and the cowling as it is right now, not sure why they left so much room inbetween, but there it is.
