Re: how to kill yourself on a twin Rebreather, lesson 1

I realise handset monitering is critical and I,am not trying to find shortcuts.

reason for asking was the accuracy of the reading you get from a HUD, OK let me refrase that, "the ability of the diver to deal with the information under a very stressful situation" In this situation a display of the actual values in numbers seems better than code. Please remember I am only just starting down this path (Half way through MOD1), In time the HUD will probably be as clear to me as seeing the display.........

Does that make sense

1: The times I looked at the handsets quickly to check that the PPO2 was not gonna kill me, and
2: The were times I had a good long look to check that things were operating properly, check cell correlation, watch for fluctuations, determine which cells were voted in etc etc.

My HUD is now telling me all the time what my PPO2 is to the nearest 0.1bar - this only replaces the first reason I used to look at my handsets - I still use the handsets for the second.

On a single loop breather then you could argue that as long as you know your PPO2's not gonna kill you then you're OK, and rely wholely on this display - I'm a bit anal, and I like to know more than that. Mike's experience shows that in some circumstances, that information alone is not sufficient.

As Dave said, a HUD is complementary to a detailed numerical display IMHO, and should not replace good handset monitoring practices - all is does allow you to do is to reduce the required frequency of detailed monitoring.
